A Renaissance woman, Carol S. Sakai is an artist, sculptor, composer,
poet, teacher of yoga/meditation and Tai Chi. Her art work has been
seen internationally, and her portrait, "Reaping the Fruits of what
I've sown" was
featured in a March 2, 1999 article on "Visionary Artists" published in
the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago Tribune describes her work as creating
the "essence of a person's energy" and has compared her style to that
of the great visionary artist poet and mystic William Blake
(1757-1823).
Carol was originally trained as a scientist, however in 1983 received a calling to develop her artistic self. She received her doctorate in Medical Physiology from the U. of Maryland School of Medicine, with postdoctoral training in Reproductive Endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda MD. She has studied human anatomy from both the medical and artistic point of view. She is a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist with training in Tai Chi, Qigong, dance/ movement modalities as well as Vipassana Buddhist meditation. She has a graduate certificate in Qigong studying under the guidance of Master Ma Li Tang in the Fragrant Hills of Beijing, China. Carol received drawing & portrait painting instruction from the Corcoran School of Art, Wash., D. C., the Art League at the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, VA and bronze sculpture training at the Montpelier Art Center, Laurel, MD. She studied the systematic analysis of color with Joy Turner Luke using the Munsell color system. She has had numerous art showings of her work in the Wash., D. C. area. In addition, several recitals of her musical compositions have been featured at the Levine School of Music, Wash., D. C. in a series called "Current Jam." Carol is a published poet and created illustrations for the "New Millennium Bible" a visionary holistic translation of the Hebrew bible co-authored with Rabbi Gershon Winkler. |
