Rabbi Gershon Winkler

Rabbi Gershon Winkler, respected Jewish scholar is a unique blending of theologian, shaman, and teacher. He is the author of ten books on Jewish mysticism, philosophy and folklore. He is without a doubt one of the most daringly creative writers of Jewish themes today. His writings are scholarly, humorous, and compassionate challenging the mind, enliven the spirit, stretching the bounds of our understanding and revealing an earth-centered Judaism which has been previously lost. Born in Denmark, the son and grandson of ultrareligious rabbis, Winkler abandoned urban Judaism to live in nature, where he felt he could experience G-d more directly.  In the process, he rejected Orthodoxy, developing a more free-spirited personal theology he refers to as "flexidoxy." He now lives in New Mexico where he has discovered that vision quests of the nature-centered Native American religions have parallels in the Jewish tradition. He has uncovered an earth-centered Judaism by going back to the scriptural and many of the kabbalistic [mystical] postscriptural teachings that had been buried over the centuries. He is currently working on a book on this topic entitled, The Way of the Jewish Shaman and notes that the shamanic path, "involves the ability to shift reality". He brings his unique ability to shift to a higher level of awareness to the current project New Millennium Bible.
